Family Safari — The first time a child sees a lion in the wild is not a small thing.
Safari that works for everyone

Family Safari

The first time a child sees a lion in the wild is not a small thing.

Children change how a safari feels. Not negatively — profoundly.

We've watched adults experience Africa completely differently when a child is asking the questions. The wonder is contagious. A seven-year-old who wants to know why the giraffe has a long neck will get the full story — the biology, the evolutionary reason, the Zulu name for giraffe, and the legend Khaya's grandmother told him.

Family safaris with us are paced around the children, not the other way around. We start at times that work for small humans. We stop when curiosity is high. We take breaks without apology. We make this work.

What a day looks like

The junior tracker

Khaya gives the children their own role. Following tracks, identifying birds, noting wind direction. They're not passengers — they're part of the team.

The question hour

Children ask better questions than adults. We've learned to love them. How old is the elephant? Why does the hippo live in water? We answer everything.

Cooking over fire

Most children have never cooked outside. Building a fire, making food over it — this becomes a story they tell back home.

The night drive

The bush at night is different. Torchlight, eye-shine, sounds you don't hear in daylight. Children handle it better than most adults expect.
